Creating a room whether it’s in your home or office is important because it will say something about you. The trick is in being able to create what you want it to say.
Imagine a room with nothing except bare white walls and a concrete floor… Does that sound cold or boring to you? Let’s add a patterned Asian area rug to the floor, and for the walls striped wall paper. Interesting yet? Pattern and texture awakens the senses and adds interest in the room. It makes the room come alive. |

Art work can add texture to the room and give the wall space just the interest it needed. The furniture can be a combination of smooth and patterned fabrics of different style periods. |
For the home, the kitchen and bathroom can have many different textures and patterns. These rooms have so many different materials such as stones, tiles, stainless steel, copper, glass and mirror. All of these surfaces help to add texture or pattern. Alone, they can be cold and hard edged. Adding wood cabinets or floors can bring the warmth the room needs. This gives balance and creates a room that is both useable and decoratively alive. |
