Do you remember the wallpaper that was in, when you were growing up? Didn’t we learn to hate it? Now, you no longer have to be scared off by wallpaper, inundated with ideas of tacky, plastic-looking floral patterns and primary-colored stripes. Some of the freshest trends in wallcoverings can be a great component to decorating your home. There are a lot of patterns that do enhance an interior that can uplift and inspire and bring a sense of peace and tranquility to a room.

Wallcoverings are about adding texture and depth to a space. The most subtle texture or pattern can add depth and warmth that paint cannot. It can also be a cost-effective way to get large-scale art on your walls.

A few wallcoverings that are the current trend include:

Hand-painted papers that provide a romantic solution for those who want individualized wallcoverings depicting chinoiserie (Chinese influence) or rich, garden vistas.
Fabulous high-end, high-design wall murals, individually customized for specific needs add drama to your walls.
A modern alternative to the traditional look are high-resolution recreations, giving you the option of having a wall-sized photograph in your home.

When choosing wallcoverings, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Use neutral colors for a classic look that will last and never go out of style.
No matter the size of the room, choose a small, subtle pattern to keep it from becoming too overwhelming.
Coordinate the painted wall to match the wallpaper.
