See what my satisfied clients are saying...
"Karen's ability to suggest colors that brought the various elements of my house together was amazing. I also appreciate the contacts that she has within the industry that allow her to completely handle the planning and installation of flooring and painting within my home."

"I had 5 weeks to remodel. One week for breakdown, 3 to decorate and 1 to put everything back into my salon. She took charge while I was out of town for 17 days of the remodel. When I returned, everything was done, in order, and beautiful."

Tips- October 2007
(New Design trends)
Design trends for 2008 are leaning toward 4 basic looks.
|
Simplicity
This trend is as the simple as it gets:
there are no frills, ornamentation or fuss.
The focus is on pure materials and the
cleanliness of design. The palette lends
its influence to urban neutrals such as,
aged brick, cement, asphalt, limestone,
and weathered stainless steel with a few
bright pops of color. The simplicity |
|
|
| of this
trend is a clean, condensed approach to
interior design, a street smart, pop-culture
aesthetic, with a reworking of the darker, Goth approach, and a contemporary take on classic design, with nothing stuffy or overdone. A room with this trend will include: architectural motifs, menswear pattern influences, color blocking, stamped metallics, flocked fabrics and wallpapers. The classic motifs include floral, scrolls, acanthus, and many others in mid to large scale repeat patterns. |
Alchemy
We turn to fantasies when our reality appears too grim and oppressive. All we want is to believe in new promises of miracle cures. This trend includes the curated home, reinventing, recycling, recreating, and transformation. The palette is complex unusual and unpredictable. The colors are vague and ungraspable. The grays can appear to be pale blues or lavenders, deep blues and purples have odd undertones, a changeable blue/green is offset with a sharp green/yellow, and some rare metallics. The themes of this trend are: wonder, discovery & magic, fascinating oddities in collecting, the eternal search of a fountain of youth, our dependence on and disconnect from the overwhelming impact of technology, and the holistic approach to everything, the transformation of old-fashioned, dated or dying processes into hip, edgy, odd art forms, cultural statements and collectables for a new generation. The on-going need for the handmade in a technology based society. This theme is played out with exotic skins looks, stripes, checks, diagonals and geometrics in new color schemes with varied scale. There are coated finishes such as laminated, lacquered and patents. Other fabrics in this theme have honeycomb structures, patchwork effects and vintage lace and trims. |
Edenism
The key theme is beauty for beauty’s
sake. An approach to luxury based on
indulgent, emotional and enveloping
individual experience. This trend includes
the Baroque & Rococo influences in
furniture, sensual indulgences, and
socially-conscious Sybaritism. The
palette is romantic and |
|
|
feminine with
a vintage influence. It includes soft
blue, powdery pinks and an almost mauve, balanced by richer, brighter treatments of the same hues, plus gold, silver and other shimmering metallics. The themes in this trend are: always the best & the latest, but the emphasis moving forward is experience! Motivational and emotionally rewarding experiences are valued more highly and sought with more fervor than possessions. Extravagance is verging on excess. Bling is pushed to its limits. The feeling is the ongoing mood of luxury. You’ll see embossed velvets, colorful fur, fine combed cotton jacquards and prints, damasks and brocades, washed fabric finishes and double cloths and weaves with exotic patterns. |
Universal Neighborhood
In this theme, consumers are split between me-oriented values and we-oriented values and seek some balance between them. This theme has the broadest of all looks because it’s about creating something that is authentic to the local market and the moment. The palette consists of non-colors—whites and off-whites that serve as basis for a highly customized palette for each project, room or home. This theme includes fabrics that are handknits, ethnic embroideries, food motifs with a contemporary sentiment, toiles and figurative patterns, and exotics, plate and conversational prints.
